In life there are times of opportunity opening up like windows, staying open for a while, and eventually closing again. Our choice is to take advantage of such a window or not. My wish to spend an extended timeout at sea came true in 2014. In mid 2015 I set sail from Turkey across the Mediterranean to the Canary Islands and back to the western Med where I sailed in the summer of 2017 and 2018 alone and with friends. 2019 saw us venturing into the Atlantic, up the Portuguese coast and out to the Azores, Madeira, Canaries, Cape Verdes, and crossing to the Caribbean with family and guests.
After a lot of islands hopping in the Eastern Caribbean, Los Roques, and the ABC-Islands I have now arrived in Panama. The current pandemic forces me to stay put and consider my further plans. The Pacific beckons - but who knows if and when I will be able to start this adventure.

My passion for sailing runs like a red thread in my life: As a boy I was lucky enough to gather my first sailing experiences on our family boat. In my teens I sailed my own dinghies Vaurien and later a 470 on a small lake in Switzerland.
At age 14 I took my first sailing test and at 25 got my Swiss certificate of competence for ocean yachting. Educational and charter sailing trips followed. My sailing experience at sea roughly amounts to 25000 nm which I gathered in such diverse areas as the Mediterranean, North Sea, Atlantic, and Pacific oceans. Since 2014 I cruise on my own keel with Moira, a magnificent Hallberg-Rassy 43, a great boat to set myself ever growing challenges.
