In life there are at times opportunities that open up like windows, stay open for a while, and eventually close again. Our choice is to take advantage of such an open window or not.
My wish to spend an extended timeout at sea was met with such a window and I was able to buy Moira in 2014. In mid 2015 I set sail with my partner from Turkey to cross the Mediterranean into the Canary Islands. After a winter break we sailed back to the western Med. In the summer of 2017 and 2018 I sailed alone and with friends in the Med.
At the end of each season I asked myself: Is it time to sell the boat or go on sailing? I am happy to say that my window of opportunity still remains open for 2019. After a few years in the Med I am drawn to the Atlantic and its islands. Want to come? Please see our Itinerary in 2019.
My passion for sailing is like a red thread in my life: As a boy I was lucky enough to gather my first sailing experience on our family boat. In my teens I sailed my own dinghies (Vaurien, 470) on a small lake in Switzerland.
At 14 I took my first sailing test and at 25 got my Swiss certificate of competence for ocean yachting. Educational and charter sailing trips followed. My sailing experience at sea roughly amounts to 12000 nm which I gathered in such diverse areas as the Mediterranean, North Sea, Atlantic, and Pacific oceans. Since 2014 I cruise on my own keel with Moira, a magnificent Hallberg-Rassy 43.
